In 2008-9 we ran our blog here, we finished it for 2010 but due to impressive demand it is now back, we didn’t quite realise how many read it and found nuggets of great info in here. We’ve even had two motoring journalists ask where it has gone as they used it for ‘no holds barred’ gems!.

So, bowing to pressure...we’re back! Brace yourselves over the coming weeks!

22nd June 2010 : Post budget fever....

OK...please be aware what the VAT rise measn for car buyers. VAT is applied when your car is built and ready for handover..and therefore ready to be invoiced by the dealer. SO... cars which cannot be invoiced until after new year will be at the new 20% vat rate....

To avoid this you need to order in plenty of time and use our advice to check leadtimes on cars you are interested in.

Leadtimes for the UK are currently averaging 12-16 weeks on many cars...but some are already into 2011 deliveries.....so you need to be dealing with your car replacement right NOW

    24th May 2010 : Post auction fever....

We held our first event of our March-Sept £20k fundraiser campaign in our offices last Fri 21st May  Clic Sargent charity online auction - there were some fantastic items/events donated from both local Cirencester business and national venues and we raised well over £800 towards our target of £20,000

Thank you to everyone who helped, donated, or bid!

Car deals are busy as franchised dealerships battle for customers for end of May deals: money off Ford stocks if you can pay by end of May, deals on Peugeot stocks, but the Audi price rise becomes effective tomorrow.

It will be interesting to see if any mfrs use 1st June to tweak pricing again, next usual date is 1st July for most.

    13th May 2010 : Post election fever....

Well there’s lots to still be decided at Downing Street, but Blackjack Street in Cirencester is still buzzing!  Election fever has not dampened interest in car buying, flavours of the month have been the fantastic VW Polo, Ford Fiesta, Ford new 2010 SMax, Mazda 2 and Mazda 6, Volvo XC90. There would be massive interest in Audi Q5 if leadtimes had not just crept into 2011 as UK Audi dealers had their ordering allocation dropped from the expected 7-8 a month each to just 1 each. Crazy stuff and Audi A3 leadtimes are Oct/Nov already.
Audi A1, still no pricing and launch is likely to be with ZERO discount..and small numbers for the UK only to start with.

New Audi TT correct specifications and pricing should be available by this weekend after several ‘blips’ in getting anomalies resolved via Audi, our page will be updated as soon as have the correct data - we know there’s loads of you waiting!

Please remember the last day of our Clic Sargent charity online auction is next Fri, 21st May - there are totally fantastic things there for every budget, and if you are local then Callum and some of his cycling team will be in our offices 1pm - 4pm on the 21st!

    9th April 2010 : The busiest week....

Sorry for lack of blog this week...purely down to workload, we’re run off our feet with orders this week, plus what seems like a thousand new enquiries, and a lot of April price changes were late being submitted by mfr’s so we’re still having to work on a few (a surprise Peugeot rise hit us this morning...we’d been told ‘no change’ on incentives/discounts but had not been warned about the base price rise on the car ranges - so as I type our Peugeot prices are all being recalculated!

Best sellers this week have been Ford Focus, VW Polo, Volvo XC90, Mazda 3, VW Golf, Mercedes C Class estates, Ford Fiesta, and Volvo XC60.

The Twcyle campaign for CLIC Sargent children’s cancer care is really gathering pace (http://www.twyclebritain.co.uk) with well over £1000 already raised in just 3 weeks, we also have a great auction of some fantastic things coming up for it too!

Our used car business is going really well..two great new bits of stock just in : a Corsa 1.7CDti SRI 3dr in black and a Peugeot 307 5dr S A/C in silver http://www.ubuycars.co.uk

Anyway- sun is out today and all is good with the world!

    Helping Others again

    Liam_callum

From 22/3/10 we are asking our customers and dealer partners to help us raise funds for TwycleBritain in aid of CLIC Sargent children’s cancer care. This is a 1000 mile cycle ride the length of Britain by 12yr old Callum Fairhurst (who lost his brother to cancer last year) helped by the delightful Monty English of Dickinson’s Real Deal and Monty’s Minutes art slots. We need to help them raise £20,000 by end August 2010 for the grand cycle challenge!

DealDrivers are on the Twycle Committee and supporting by helping to raise cash and we are providing the web HQ for the challenge free of charge. Please join us in helping this grand twosome raise much needed money for children’s cancer care, click on the photo’ to view their website and links to their safe & secure “just giving” page to make a small donation!

    3rd April 2010 :Mazda

Mazda prices now online too, just got to reprice the dealer’s stock vehicles, will do asap today and add to each model page!

    2nd April 2010 : It’s all slow!

Yesterday was the day manufacturers are supposed to release their new quarter 2 trading terms and prices to UK dealers for Apr-Jun trading, normally they all straa to float in the night before or from 9am on the day itself - but it has been a SLOW one this time. Only VW, Merc’ and Toyota released their data early. Citroen arrived at about lunchtime so that is now done, but we had to wait all day for Ford and we finally had it at 5.20pm so we have worked all night to get the models retabulated for you all so they are all online as of 0730 today!
Mazda and Seat are with us now too so we’ll be looking at that today.

Still no sign of Peugeot, Volvo, LandRover, Renault, and we have a question mark regarding any poss’ changes from Audi.

Ford and Toyota’s deals are looking good so far..but Ford’s are for April orders only so you’ll need to be quick. lots of good finance incentives on both.

Yesterday we held the first TwycleBritain planning meeting in our offices  www.twyclebritain.co.uk  for CLIC Sargent childrens cancer care, very exciting, we made a lot of planning progress and that website will be updated shortly. The reality of this cycle ride is now quite scary!! We laughed a lot, grimaced a lot, but made a lot of good decisions to take this whole project forward quickly.

    30th March 2010 : It’s all go!

Last chance to get your XC90 orders in for current discount, and last chance to get Ford orders in for current deals too....it’s now or never!
Everything else will now have to wait until mfr’s reveal their cards on price from 1st April (apart from VW, Merc’ and Toyota which are already released and online).

Had great news last night about a MAJOR sponsor joining the www.twyclebritain.co.uk campaign for CLICK Sargent childrens cancer care - but got to keep schtum for now!

29th March 2010 : The end of an era, well ok - a quarter!

2 days to go to the end of the first trading quarter, VW, Merc’ and Toyota have already issued their pricing and deals for Apr-Jun, so we’ve updated our webpages for those brands and models  - but we await news on other brands - we already know Renault will be putting in an increase from 1st April but details are awaited, and it is most likely there will be tweaks on Ford, Vauxhall, Seat, Peugeot, Mazda, LandRover, Citroen and Volvo.

Scrappage has gone, as has all its brand-specific siblings like swappage! Customers who usually change cars at 3-4 years can now get back in the ring!

Ordering is busy today on Audi, Volvo, Ford and VW, with lots of interest on Mazda too. leadtimes on some are scary: July/August on some VW Tiguans, same on Audi Q5....

Today is a good day..apart from trying to wade through differing policy between DVLA offices on accepting online driveaway insurances from some of the big insurance names - it would make life easier for traders if DVLA offices stuck to one policy and made it clear. In the past 6hrs we’ve had 4 different answers to the same question depending on where you call!

Right..we have orders to push through for the end of the day so must dasheroony!

18th March 2010: Turning over a new Leaf

Nissan have announced the new electric ‘Leaf’, running on lithium-ion batteries -will be built in Sunderland - fantastic news for the UK car industry but it is a few years away yet...production starts in 2013, and Ford are getting investment help to develop engines- more great news to safeguard almost 3000 UK jobs (about one quarter of Ford’s worldwide engines are produced in the UK, along with around half of its diesel engines)>
It has been predicted that electric cars will account for around 10% of the global market within 10 years, although the reality and practicality of this remains to be seen in terms of a support infrastructure - we’ll be watching this with interest.

We have been phenomenally busy so far this week, even having to rope in an ex- staff member to help on the phones once already this week, and they were kind enough to come in and help! Lots of people are chasing end of March stock deals, the best remain on Ford due to their exceptionally generous finance schemes - with over 90% of Ford buyers we’ve seen taking the finance scheme up too to get the extra discounts. Other best sellers for the last 3 days have been Audi A3, Mazda 2, Mazda 6, VW Golf and Polo, and Citroen DS3.

Our new Member’s Club has seen 87% of buyers join up to get the member’s discounts, you know it makes sense!

We are hoping to get ordering and pricing news on Volvo XC60/XC90 today for the new 2011 model year cars...watch this space! It’s been a long time coming! Ford have still not opened ordering for 2010 SMax or Galaxy...we have queues of customers waiting to order those.

Will report back later..got to make a start on the overnight orders!

15th March 2010: Start of a new week!:

    CIMG0133

An absolutely smashing start to the week, a real run on new car orders flying in today. Unusual coming up to a chancellor’s budget, so we think the public just want to get their new cars en route ready for the summer regardless of what happens on 24th March.

The increase in interest back on larger vehicles continues, perhaps the many who moved to a small hatch in the past 1-2 yrs have realised taking holidays can be tricky in them (!) and many are returning to something more spacious with the features they really want. Best sellers today have been Audi Q5’s (despite new leadtimes of Aug/Sep!), Ford Fiesta stock vehicles, Peug 3008’s, Ford SMax, Renault people carriers (mixed models), LandRover Freelander’s, and Merc E Class.

A lot of people today on the phones haven’t seemed to understand that we are merely advertising deals for normal main dealerships, you don’t buy from us or ‘on the internet’, we simply use a website to show you the prices dealerships are offering, and if you want to order anything we put the dealer in touch with you - it really IS that simple! No mysteries at all!

Small rants from our MD today: Why don’t post offices have stamp machines any more?! Queuing to just buy stamps and assistants too busy trying to sell insurance and anything else unconnected with stamps!..so try WH Smith instead... why do WHSmith shops slow the queue down to try and sell you surplus chocolate when you’re trying to pay for stamps? We don’t want chocolate! (well, we do, but it wouldn’t do us any good on scale Smith’s are trying to shift it on..and I really am in a hurry for these stamps!)

14th March 2010: Helping us help others:

    helpfprheroesjohn
    helpfprheroes

We supported our chum John Turner to fundraise.

Thanks to all of the dealers and customers who have donated to our runner for funds for Headley Court, to help rehabilitate our injured armed forces personnel. We have helped John raise almost £760...which is fantastic.

He ran this morning in 2:32.04 and apparently “the last 26km were the worst”! ... it isn’t too late to donate for what he’s done, click on the left!

12th March 2010: Cash where it SHOULD be

Ever thought why motoring sites bother to display ‘best deals’ from a variety of brokers/dealers etc? Well..its for cash. Their websites are funded by taking payment from featured companies. They display deals from companies who will pay a sum per month to have their deals included. We had approaches from well known sites asking for a minimum commitment of £1k a month and similar in order to be ‘recommended’ or to have our pricing displayed among other advertisers. A national paper offered us editorial at £120 per column centimetre in return for writing about us! (we said no!).

We used to feature on a number of these well known sites, but as of today we’ve now finished with the final one. We no longer divert cash into other peoples’ comparison sites, all of the money goes where it should, into the deals to the customer. So if you find our deals recommended anywhere, we won’t have paid for it - it will be a genuine recommendation from a journalist who rates us highly. To give you an idea, to participate in the main 5 online car price ‘recommenders’ would cost us a total over £48k pa!! That is lost discount to you.

We’ve followed a well known insurer who also refuses to pay to be on comparison sites, come to us direct and you won’t find some of the available car discount on your vehicle paying for our inclusion on some well known alternative websites!

One other thing you do want to watch out for..there are websites out there offering to take your requirements and get the best quote they can for you from a variety of sources..well here’s something you may not realise, they often sell a brand exclusively to one supplier..so that single supplier gets all the enquiries for the brand of car you’ve requested ‘best deal’ on..so you’ll only ever get a response from one company and of course, who can say they are the cheapest for you - they’ve merely paid for exclusive access to your enquiry lead. And no, we don’t get involved in that nonsense either!

We have stayed true to our word, we remain independent, we don’t buy leads or mailing lists (nor do we sell them, and you’d be surprised how many major names regularly sell their mailing lists). We just want to do what we always set out to do, give the customer a good honest deal direct from a franchised dealer with no strings, and no mysteriously missing logbooks, and no whitewash!

11th March 2010: Tweeting your way to a deal

    Follow DealDrivers on Twitter

If anyone still doubts the power of ‘Twitter’, think again. Not only are many of the UK’s most influential business people active on Twitter, but you can actually gain real alliances and sales by being ‘in the gang’. It is a fantastically simple way to get your message across and we’ve just placed an order for 5000 mailers with a company in Derbyshire called on Twitter as @Graphic_Results,  who we got to know via a Twitter recommendation from Rachel Elnaugh (one of the ex Dragons!) - it really is that easy. Twits are online most days and can answer questions quickly, it’s one of the most effective ways to disseminate information we know. Get tweeting!

We love it as we’ve always been proud to say our communication to suppliers and customers is honest and transparent. We can use Twitter to let people see we’re real, warm, friendly human beings - we include a lot of our own thoughts and humour on our tweets, in addition to using it to get red hot deals on the screen!

We’ve had meetings here with fellow Tweeters, we’ve taken part in local fellow tweeter’s lunches and meetings on their premises, and we are regularly contacted ion twitter by journalists needing a quick quote on something topical in the car industry. As we’re on it, and accessible, they come to us first.

Go on..give it a go, and don’t forget to follow us!
